Sources report the Atlanta Braves recalled reliever Chase Whitley.

The Atlanta Braves bullpen revolving door continues to spin, but this time no one pitched badly enough to be the obvious option/DFA candidate.

Whitley’s been rehabbing at Gwinnett after coming off the DL following a staph infection on an injured heel.

Introducing Chase Whitely

The Yankees drafted the 6’4”, 220 pound RHP Chase Whitley in the 15th round of the 2010. He moved quickly through their system pitching well at all levels and made his Major League debut in may of 2014.

He shut out the Mets long enough to earn the win that night and finished the year with a 4-3 record in 12 starts, 5.23 ERA, 4.14 FIP and 1.480 WHIP in 75 2/3 IP.

After four starts to start 2015 he joined the ever-growing list of pitchers having TJ surgery. The Yankees placed him on waivers after the season and claimed immediately by the Rays.

Whitely made 41 appearances for Tampa throwing 54 1/3 innings at a 4.08 ERA, 3.56 FIP with a 1.116 WHIP. His finished with an 18% K rated and  6.7% walk rate.

The Rays nontendered him rather than pay him about $1M in arbitration and he signed a split contract with The Braves. He came to spring training and looked like a good find until the staph infection sent him to the DL.
