The Atlanta Braves Takes Late Lead For 10-5 Win Against Marlins
By John Le
The Atlanta Braves scored five runs in the last two innings to take the late win
The Atlanta Braves were literally neck-and-neck with the Miami Marlins for most of the game, staying tied until the 8th inning. Mike Soroka pitching a good game with unlucky hits.
The Braves scored in the first inning when Freddie Freeman launched a first pitch solo home run. The Marlins retaliated however with three consecutive hits to tie the game.
In the 2nd inning, Ender Inciarte drew a four-pitch walk. Next Tyler Flowers singled in Inciarte with some help from RF Brian Anderson‘s error.
Ronald Acuna got his first hit of the game during the 5th inning allowing Freeman another chance to hit and he didn’t miss it. Freeman blasted one to center for his second homer of the night for two more runs. At that point, the Braves were up 4-1.

Soroka wanted to rebound from the bad outing he had against the Giants and in a way was better. He pitched only 4.2 innings but struck out seven while walking only one. A costly error by Jose Bautista was what tied the game up in the 5th. Before error, Martin Prado hit a two-out single, followed by an infield hit by Starlin Castro. Then a walk to Justin Bour loaded the bases.
Prado would score on the fielding error while the batter Anderson was safe to keep it loaded. Next, Derek Dietrich hit a long bases-clearing double. It looked like Acuna mistakenly expected to go over the fence from the way he reacted when the ball came down.
So an error that could have been the third out turned into a four-run inning for the Marlins. Miami up 5-4. However, Soroka was only charged with the one run earlier in the game.
Bautista, though, made up for the error with his first home run of the season –and first with the Braves– to tie the game again.
Braves Patience Tested
It was in the 8th innings where things became interesting. The Braves absolutely showed their patience and was rewarded for it. Freeman started everything with a walk and then a single by Nick Markakis. Inciarte then saw a total of 13 pitches before getting a walk himself.
Tyler Flowers also drew a walk to bring in a run after eight pitches. The Marlins sent in Junichi Tazawa and he walked Johan Camargo for another run. The Braves lead 7-5.
The Braves added some insurance runs in the 9th inning. Freeman and Markakis hit consecutive 1-out hits but Freeman was thrown out at third.
Charlie Culberson, pinch-hitting, shot a triple to deep center to score Markakis. Inciarte then homered to right for a 10-5 lead!
Arodys Vizcaino came out in the bottom of the 9th and finished out the game for the Brave’s win.
