Braves Ozzie Albies is taking over the NL and the hearts of many

The 21-year-old from Willemstad, Curacao is capturing the hearts of all of us more and more each night.  This young kid for the Atlanta Braves is amazing to watch and something to look forward to each day.  He’s off to an amazing 2018 season and has helped the Braves to a 29-18 record — currently 1st place in the NL East and the best record in the NL.

If you weren’t able to catch the game last night against the Philadelphia Phillies, let me share this bit of information with you…the Braves WON!  3-1 to be exact and while I’m here talking about Ozzie Albies, he scored all three runs.  He went 2-4 last night with a homer, a walk and three runs scored.

The video below is the first run he scored, it wasn’t just a run, it was a home run!  Ozzie’s 14th of the 2018 season!  He’s second in the NL with that total, only behind Bryce Harper who has 15 home runs.  The MLB leader has 16 and that’s Mookie Betts.

Albies just isn’t crushing home runs though, he’s also getting on base, scoring and hitting guys in.  He has 34 RBIs — which puts him 4th in the NL.   He has 45 runs scored — which is first in the NL and second in the entire MLB.  Has a slash line of .285./.329/.586 with six stolen bases.  Really the only thing he’s not doing right now is walking that much…has 12 for the season.

Many reports on Albies coming through the Braves system were that he was a much better hitter from the right side against lefties.  While that may be the case, he’s still extremely solid from the left side of the plate against righties.  In 2018, he has a .407 average against lefties, with five home runs in 54 at-bats.  From the left side of the plate, he’s now up to a .242/.301/.503 slash line.

The talk for a while has been all about top prospect Ronald Acúna Jr, but Albies is definitely proving his worth.  When he plays, I smile.  When he runs, I smile.  When he talks, I smile.  I may have an obsession, but who are you to judge?

Next: Braves Alex Anthopoulos spoke with the media and is ready to win

Albies told FOX Sports Kelsey Wingert after the game last night that he worked extremely hard over the offseason to get this power.  If you recall, we posted a lot over the offseason of the workout videos Ozzie was sharing on social media.  He put in the work this offseason and it’s showing!

Braves are back in action tonight in the match against the Phillies.  We’ll see Luiz Gohara on the mound for the Braves and Jake Arrieta for Philadelphia.
