The last-place Padres battered the first-place Braves Monday night in the first of a six game west coast stand.

The Atlanta Braves (35-25) didn’t have much at all working on the mound Monday night in an 11-4 loss.

Julio Teheran got the start for Atlanta, in a game that would see him exit early with apparent blisters on his fingers in the fifth.  Or…

The solo homer bug was back to bite Teheran, who left after four innings pitched, giving up four runs on five hits, walking three and striking out only two.

San Diego got solo shots in the first, the second and then another in the fourth to go back up on the Braves 3-2 after Charlie Culberson had plated two with a double earlier in the inning.

Luiz Gohara came on in relief after some time away taking care of family matters in Brazil and he didn’t have much working after all of that travel.  Gohara gave up another six runs on six hits with a walk, only working two thirds an inning.

Gohara gave way to Peter Moylan who managed to put a bandage on the bleeding, ending the inning. All said and done, the Padres sent 11 men to the plate in the fifth inning, scoring seven total runs to end the inning up 10-2.

In the sixth, Atlanta added a run, cutting to the lead to 10-3 when Ender Inciarte singled home Nick Markakis.

San Diego got themselves yet another solo homer in the sixth inning, this time off of Peter Moylan to go up 11-3. Moylan would finish up the inning for Atlanta without any more damage.

Sam Freeman came on in the seventh and allowed a hit but didn’t allow any runs to the Padres, and the Braves couldn’t add any runs in the eighth.

The Braves put another arm on the mound for the eighth in reliever Shane Carle, who also managed to avoid further carnage.

Atlanta got a little offense working in the ninth, but the game ended with Freddie Freeman‘s hit streak coming to an end with a long fly ball to the base of the wall.

The Braves and Padres get back to action Tuesday in a game set for 10:10 p.m. for the second of a three-game set.  Hopefully Sean Newcomb can keep Atlanta in the game.
