The lone run was enough as Atlanta Braves Sean Newcomb pitched another good game with seven K’s in six innings

It was a rather quiet day for most both sides of the offense as the Atlanta Braves looked to take game three of the series.

More from Tomahawk Take

The Padres initially continued their hot bat from game two. They threatened with some déjà vu in the 1st when Jose Perela hit a lead-off double similar to what Travis Jankowski did Friday night.

Eric Hosmer grounded out but then Newcomb walked Hunter Refroe. With two on, Newcomb would then strike out both Christian Villanueva and Franmil Reyes to end it.

It was in the 5th when Charlie Culberson hit a shot to left for a solo home run. That would prove to be the winning point as it would be the only point of the game.

The game would go into a weather delay as rain started to fall just before the start of the bottom 6th inning. The delay lasted around an hour before resuming.

Newcomb’s day ended after the delay. In his outing, he allowed only two hits and walked only one while striking out seven!

Play On

The Padres had Jordan Lyles on the mound and he had a relatively good outing, pitching seven innings and six strikeouts. Just threw an unlikely pitch for a homer.

Dan Winkler took over for Atlanta followed by A.J. Minter who both had shutdown innings. Arodys Vizcaino came out to close the game and had some trouble. He struck out the first batter, Eric Hosmer, easy.

He then threw two strikes against Renfroe but after throwing a ball that hit Tyler Flowers, it seemed to knock him off his concentration. Four pitches later, Renfroe ripped one to left for a double.

Cory Spangenberg, pinch-hitting, got hit by a pitch after a 0-2 count. Vizcaino managed to get a strikeout from Franmil Reyes before Freddy Galvis grounded out to end the game.

The Braves announced later that today’s attendance was the largest in SunTrust Park history. It was also their fifth sellout of the year.

Newcomb improves to 8-2 with a 2.70 ERA. He too deserves a trip to the All-Star game. The Braves add a W to their record which sits at 41-29.

Julio Teheran makes his return from the DL tomorrow as he makes the start against the Padres. Padres have yet to announce their starter. Game starts at 1:35 PM ET.

The Braves also announced that Mike Foltynewicz was placed on the DL with right triceps tightness.
