The Atlanta Braves adjusted their 25-man roster in preparation for the start of their second-half run, designating Danny Santana for assignment and recalling Michael Reed.

The Atlanta Braves claimed Danny Santana off waivers from the Twins last year. He had several good at-bats in his first few games then returned to being the AAAA player he’s been since 2014.

Santana finished the 2017 season with an abysmal .203/.245/.357/.602 line, a .254 wOBA and 52 wRC+.  Most were surprised when the Braves signed him to another minor league deal two weeks after releasing him last December.

Santana started 2018 with Gwinnett and posted a .279/.300/.539/.839 line with a .353 wOBA and 128 wRC+ in 219 PA. The Braves purchased his contract on June 21 and he made his first appearance on June 22,  going 2-3 with a double against the Orioles.

In his next 28 PA, Santana managed one more hit, two walks, and 11 strikeouts. That made his final line .179/.281/.286/.567 with a .259 wOBA and 59 wRC+. Hopefully, this ends the Santana saga with the Atlanta Braves permanently.

Atlanta Braves recall Reed.

Michael Reed joined the Braves as a free agent last December. Originally the Brewers fifth-round selection in 2011, Reed made his debut for the crew in September 2015. He managed another September call-up in 2016 but never managed to stick in Milwaukee.

Reed split the 2017 season between AA and AAA compiling a combined .341/.462/.542/1.003 line. That’s really good but the  Brewers outfield looked overbooked to start this season.

Not only were Ryan Braun, Brett Phillips and Domingo Santana returning, the Crew also added Christian Yelich.  Reed decided to test the waters as a minor league free agent and almost immediately signed with the Atlanta Braves.

He started 2018 right where he left off, reminding the Braves how he rose to the Brewers #17 prospect in 2016 and showing himself ready for prime time, posting a .371/.480/.597/1.077 line along with a .471 wOBA and 204 wRC+ for the Stripers.
