Many legitimate things have been said about Jose Urena since hitting Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna last night. How about that he may have aided in a postseason berth?

Gutless. A garbage pitcher. A Bush league move. These were all sayings making the rounds last night when Jose Urena decided upon himself to drill Ronald Acuna with a 98 mph fastball. Not too mention, my phone was blown up with a bunch of sayings I can’t say in this piece. Thankfully, Acuna will not miss significant time. However, Urena may, and should, but that’s a story for another article. The question here is did Jose Urena actually help the Braves?

Before you revolt, hear me out. In no way, shape, or form did I want to see Acuna get beaned with a fastball near his elbow, much less while he is on a historic streak. However, every good team at the end of the year looks back at a moment as the time they come together and truly believed they could be special. This could be that moment. It might have taken Snitker rightfully losing his mind after the pitch or the words he said after the game that we have all seen multiple times by now to get this team to look at itself and say let’s win the whole thing.

Then again, maybe that day was May 20th when the Braves stormed a big rally in the 9th to beat this same Marlins team. Maybe it was the near no-hitter on July 29th against the Dodgers, or heck, maybe it was opening day when the Braves stormed back and beat the Phillies.

No matter what, the Atlanta Braves come together in a positive way Wednesday night. Critics have said the Braves didn’t come out of the dugout fast enough and maybe they’re right, but the fact is the Braves have a ton to lose right now while the Marlins are probably in a better spot for the future with every loss the Braves handed them this week.

You can say what you want about the Braves not reacting quickly out of the dugout, but they provided good statements after the fiasco and after the win. Freddie Freeman, Tyler Flowers, and Peter Moylan all provided the leadership statements that should be expected from them. The Atlanta Braves play the Marlins for the final time next weekend and one would be foolish not to expect some sort of retaliation.

So while Atlanta Braves nation held its collective breath waiting on the final diagnosis of Acuna, maybe positive was gained out of this. Now that we know Ronald Acuna is ok, Jose Urena, you may have awoken a sleeping giant.
