3B Rio Ruiz optioned from Atlanta to Gwinnett

Gwinnett Stripers 8, Norfolk Tides 3

The Stripers got a very solid fill-in start from Connor Johnstone and put up two 3-run innings in the 3rd and 7th innings to support him to bring home the victory on Thursday over Norfolk.

Johnstone tossed 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and a walk, striking out 3. Miguel Socolovich, Shane Carle, and Jacob Webb all combined for 3 innings of scoreless ball behind Johnstone, allowing just one hit combined and striking out 2.

Austin Riley had a big day, going 3-5 with a home run, double, and a single, driving in 5 runs. Michael Reed had a double, single, and a walk. Luis Marte had a double and a pair of walks. Xavier Avery had three walks.

Mississippi Braves 4, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 3, Game 1; Mississippi Braves 1, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 0, Game 2

The Jumbo Shrimp scored first in game one, but the M-Braves came back with a pair of runs in both the 3rd and 6th innings to come away with a 4-3 win. Michael Mader tossed 5 quality innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and a walk, striking out 2.

Travis Demeritte and Tyler Marlette each had a pair of singles.

In the second game, Mississippi pulled off the doubleheader sweep in spite of being incredibly dominated throughout the game by Jacksonville starter Jordan Yamamoto, who tossed 6 no hit innings without a walk, a hit by pitch the only thing keeping him from a perfect game. He struck out 9 Braves.

The Braves capitalized on facing a reliever in the 7th, and Travis Demeritte got the team’s only hit of the game, lacing a triple. He scored on an error to give Mississippi the win.

Tampa Tarpons 3, Florida Fire Frogs 1

After Florida scored in the 3rd, Tampa came back with a pair in the bottom of the 4th and then tacked on another in the 5th to take what was supposed to be the first of a pair on Thursday before rain canceled out the second game.

Huascar Ynoa went 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks, striking out 5. Isranel Wilson had a double, single, and a walk. Garrison Schwartz had a double. CJ Alexander had a single and a walk.

Rome Braves 5, Greenville Drive 1

The Braves put up one run at a time to support a dominant performance from Freddy Tarnok. Tarnok went 5 2/3 innings, allowing a run on 2 hits and 2 walks, striking out 2. John Curtis and Zach Daniels combined for 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to back up Ynoa.

Derian Cruz had a pair of doubles. Hagen Owenby had a pair of singles and a walk. Jefrey Ramos knocked out a home run. Justin Dean legged out a triple. Trey Harris stole his 2nd base of the season.
