The Atlanta Braves have been linked to Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto for the past year. So is this offseason finally the time they acquire him? Just how significant will it cost

When the Marlins had their fire sale last offseason, the Atlanta Braves inquired on both Christian Yelich and J.T. Realmuto, but the asking price was their very top prospect, which was Ronald Acuna. For the obvious reasons that do not need to be stated, that was not going to happen.

At the trade deadline this past July, the Braves again made attempts to pry Realmuto away from Miami, but according to a report by MLB.com’s Mark Bowman, the Marlins wanted Mike Soroka and Austin Riley (and I am assuming more), but Alex Anthopolous decided not to pull the trigger again.

This offseason one of the major focus areas for the Atlanta Braves will be catcher. The top catcher in the farm system is still multiple years away from being ready to take over the position, so the team will be looking at someone who can at least be a quality contributor behind the plate for multiple seasons.

As arguably the top catcher in the game, J.T. Realmuto fits that definition very well. He’s a solid offensive and defensive contributor, and he’s under team control through the 2020 season.

Now as the offseason has officially begun, it once again seems likely the Braves will get involved in the Realmuto sweepstakes.

There has been speculation about what the cost would specifically be for arguably the game’s best catcher.

Let’s take a look at what some of the industry folks are saying, as well as a trade from two years ago that might give some insight as to the cost for Realmuto.
