Atlanta Braves Winter Meeting Simulation day 1: James Paxton mock trade

The first full day of the FanSided Winter Meeting Simulation resulted in one mock deal… one big deal.

My day consisted of discussions about several simulated trades to improve the Atlanta Braves, but none have yet materialized. You need to know the lay of the land, so I’ll recount trades others made that affected this one.

The first big and rather unusual trade came when the Simulated GM of the Yankees signed over the deed to Yankees Stadium to the Giants, or at least it seemed that way.

I planned to describe this faux trade, but words fail me so I’ll just lay out the details.

The simulated trade sees the Yankees get one guaranteed year of Madison Bumgarner. The Giants receive:

Conversely, the Indians gave Carlos Carrasco and Tyler Naquin to Arizona in exchange for OF David Peralta and Diamondbacks #13 RHRP Jimmy Sherfy (45FV).

One of those things is not like the other.

As the day drew to a close, the Mariners SIM-GM contacted me again about James Paxton.

Atlanta Braves Simulate Adding James Paxton

About 11 p.m. eastern tonight I agreed a simulated trade of RHP Kyle Wright, LHP Max Fried, LHP Kyle Muller, and outfielder Greyson Jenista to Seattle for Paxton.

light. Related Story. But what happened yesterday?

Everyone here knows how much I value Fried and, when I talk of excess value, this counts as an overpay; not a huge overpay, but an overpay nonetheless.

I’m not going to delve into numbers, most know about Paxton’s season and his transformation in Tacoma. The ding against him comes down to injury risk and not living up to his stuff, so I’ll address those.
