While the Atlanta Braves have depth in their pitching, a rotation leader is still something the team could seek in free agency.

Certainly, a starting pitcher is not the top priority in free agency for the Atlanta Braves, but if they were to come upon a good deal on a rotation leader, they would definitely be interested. Could Patrick Corbin be a fit?

Player Profile

The Angels originally drafted Patrick Corbin in the 2nd round in the 2009 draft. He was traded along with three other players in July of 2010 to Arizona for Dan Haren.

Corbin had a big season in 2010 in his first full season in the minor leagues, going 13-4 across both A-ball levels, with a 3.42 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and a 37/136 BB/K ratio over 144 2/3 innings. After a very good season with AA Mobile in 2011, Corbin was firmly in the Diamondbacks rotation plans.

In 2012, Corbin worked his way up from AA to AAA and pitched 107 big league innings. He took over a starting spot in 2013, going 14-8 over 32 starts and 208 1/3 innings, with a 3.41 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 54/178 BB/K.

Corbin would miss all of the 2014 season with Tommy John and a good portion of the 2015 season as well. He returned to make 16 starts for the Diamondbacks in 2015, with a 3.60 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and a 17/78 BB/K.

Corbin had mixed results in 2016 and 2017, going 5-13 with a 5.15 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 2016 before then putting up a 14-13 record over 189 2/3 innings in 2017 with a 4.03 ERA and 1.42 WHIP. His 2018 season was by far his career-best, as he tossed 200 innings with a 3.15 ERA and 1.05 WHIP, posting an impressive 48/246 BB/K.
