Atlanta Braves 2019 New Year’s Resolutions

As we put a bow on 2018, we will look at the things the Atlanta Braves will try to do better in 2019. Here is a list of their 2019 New Year’s resolutions.

The Atlanta Braves had a great 2018 in which they exceeded even their own expectations in winning the National League East title.

But, everyone needs to have New Year’s resolutions to keep getting better, and the Atlanta Braves have plenty.

Before we look towards the new year, let’s take a look at what the Braves did well in 2018. We hope these are areas they continue to do well in as we go into 2019.

A mid-season slump hurt their run total a little bit, but the Braves still finished tied for fifth in the National League in runs scored with 759.

They finished second in the league in hits with 1,453, which was 20 hits behind the NL leading Chicago Cubs. They were also just one point behind the Cubs in average at .257.

The Braves led the league in doubles with 314. That was aided by Freddie Freeman finishing tied with the most doubles in the NL at 44, with Nick Markakis right behind him at 43. Ozzie Albies was also in the top 10 with 40.

They were fifth in the NL in on-base percentage at .324, and they were also fifth in slugging at .417.

One of my favorite stats is that the Braves were third in the league with just 1,290 strikeouts.

With all the young and speedy talent they finished fifth in the NL in stolen bases with 90.

On the pitching side, they finished fifth in the NL in ERA at 3.75, but their starters were second in the league with a 3.50 ERA. They were sixth in the league with a WHIP of 1.28, while the starters were third at 1.21.

Despite having a young staff, they were fifth in the NL in quality starts with 86. And they were sixth in the league with 1,423 strikeouts.

The Atlanta Braves led the league in batting average against with a .229 average.

So with those numbers in mind, let’s look at the Atlanta Braves New Year’s resolutions for 2019.
