The Atlanta Braves essentially announced the retirement of two players last week when they announced their 2019 coaching staffs. Let’s take a look!

One of the big things that has allowed the Atlanta Braves to rebuild the team so quickly is excellent coaching in the minor league level. The team has seen long-term minor league coaches promoted to the major league level, including current manager Brian Snitker, and some of the “younger” coaches have been the subject already of rumors for more advanced jobs, but they continue to stay with the Braves in many cases.

Let’s start off with the highest level, which has the most stable staff of each level…

Gwinnett Stripers

Former Atlanta Braves catcher Damon Berryhill returns for his third season at the helm as the Stripers manager. Berryhill has led the Stripers to a 141-140 record, finishing second in the South division in both seasons. Team trainer Nick Jensen returns for his second season with the team.

The rest of the Gwinnett staff may be in their first season at the AAA level, but they’re experienced as coaches. Pitching coach Mike Maroth served in the same position for high-A Florida in 2018.

Hitting coach Bobby Magallanes and coach Einar Diaz each are new to the Atlanta Braves organization. Magallanes coached with Cleveland’s AAA club in 2018, and Diaz served with the major league coaching staff with Baltimore in 2018.

Likely with a pitching-rich roster expected in Gwinnett along with some of the most talented position players in the Atlanta Braves farm system, this coaching staff will have their hands full.

Now let’s look at the rest of the full-season coaching staffs…
