Atlanta Braves: How long should the leash be for Dansby Swanson in 2019?

The Atlanta Braves shortstop has become a divisive player among the fan base. Is there a right side to the debate?

It feels like the Atlanta Braves fanbase is literally split down the middle when it comes to their opinion on shortstop Dansby Swanson. Half of us feel like the Braves should move on from the 25-year-old, while half of us feel like the Braves should give him some more slack. Either side can make a compelling argument. Which side is right?

His Background

One thing we should all be able to agree on is that Dansby Swanson hasn’t missed out on any of the spotlights as a young Major League player for the Atlanta Braves. A product from the Southeastern Conference, Swanson was drafted out of Vanderbilt as the first overall pick in the 2015 MLB draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The expectations that come with the first overall pick of any draft can be pretty unreasonable to begin with. However, I don’t have to tell you that Major League front offices rarely display any empathy for these types of players, at least not in sports of today.

His stint with the Diamondbacks didn’t feature anything notable as in December of 2015, the Braves and Diamondbacks would make a trade that would send the shortstop to Atlanta. But this article isn’t about that 2015 trade.
