With the first game of Spring Training this Saturday against the NY Mets, let’s look at  some details for the start of the Grapefruit League.

The Atlanta Braves will begin full-squad workouts today, as the first Spring Training game will take place this weekend versus the Mets, with first pitch being at 1:10 p.m. (EST).

The starting-pitchers have been set for Game 1 and Game 2, and we’ll have a chance for first looks… once TV broadcasts begin… at the Spring invitee prospects.

Here’s what’s coming up this weekend – but first, a reminder of those non-roster players:

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m very excited to see several of these talented prospects this spring. If you remember how outstanding of a Spring Training Ronald Acuna Jr. had last year, it will be interesting to see if any of these young guys can put up a big month in Florida.

Weekend Schedule/Probables

Game 1 (Saturday, 2/23)

  • 1:05 p.m. vs. NY Mets
  • Port St. Lucie, FL
  • Starter: Touki Toussaint
  • Next pitcher: Kolby Allard
  • Radio only:  limited Braves Radio Network coverage, (WIFN 1340/103.7FM)

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution the Braves will be implementing a starting-pitching rotation, at least during this weekend’s games, of two-inning increments.

Toussaint will start Game 1, with Allard pitching innings three and four.

Game 2 (Sunday, 2/24)

  • 1:05 p.m. vs. Houston Astros [split-squad for them]

The AJC also reports that Folty will take the bump on Sunday for the Braves’ matchup between the AL powerhouse Houston Astros.

The 21-year-old Wilson will follow the two-inning layout from Saturday, and pitch the third and fourth innings.

More from Tomahawk Take

All in all, the start to the Braves’ 2019 Spring Training looks to be an exciting two games for the opening weekend of preseason baseball. It will feature a good look at what kind of talent the division foe, and newly revamped, NY Mets are working with.

Also it will be fun to see the Astros in an interleague matchup, as the Braves rarely get the chance to face Houston in regular season games.

Opening Day is coming real soon, and each daily Opening Day Countdown – provided by our own Tomahawk Take writer and editor Benjamin Chase – is helping to insure we are ready for the 2019 season.

For the most part, the offseason has been long and rather bo

ring for the Braves, but what little additions (or addition) that have been made to the team are exciting nonetheless.

The anxiousness and waiting for baseball is almost over, and soon our TV’s will be tuned in to the nightly Atlanta Braves game. Everything will be right in the world again, as we listen to Chip and Joe banter about mostly unrelated topics throughout the night.

So here’s to a productive Spring Training, but most of all, a healthy one.

In a little over a month from now the Braves will embark upon their start to a new campaign. Fresh storylines will commence shortly thereafter and within a couple of weeks we as Braves’ fans will begin to get a hold on what kind of season 2019 will in fact be.

Most importantly, we as Braves fans will be proud that for the first time in awhile now, our Braves are starting a season as an actual contending team.

The rebuild has finally ended. There’s no more of the mediocre expectations for the Atlanta Braves to happily just get by on. The Braves have now entered into a new phase as an organization – a phase that for so long they were accustomed to back in those Glory Days.

Next. Looking a few months ahead. dark

This weekend is the beginning of baseball season, folks. Enjoy it, and appreciate where this team has come from over the past several years. And may we all be thoroughly optimistic that this team shall not to go back there any time soon.
