1.  Alex Jackson (C)

The 23-year-old former first-round pick in the 2014 MLB Draft has really acquired some attention lately, especially since the J.T. Realmuto sweepstakes ended with the Braves losing out. There’s never been a question of Alex Jackson’s potential, but just a question of how soon will he be ready to play in the Major Leagues.

More from Tomahawk Take

Well, he is doing his best to answer those questions currently in Spring Training. Tied on the team with Adam Duvall and Pedro Florimòn with two home runs this Spring, Jackson has been hot so far. Here are his Spring Training numbers:

• 6 games
• 12 at-bats
• .417 batting average
• 2 home runs
• 1 double
• 4 RBI
• 0 strikeouts

The zero strikeouts are really nice to see, being that in Triple-A last season for the Braves he was striking out at an almost 35-percent clip. It’s still early, and 12 at-bats is a very small sample size, but it’s a step in the right direction for Jackson.

Alex Jackson has been a pretty solid hitter throughout his Minor League career, posting a wRC+ above 100 in three out of his five seasons, but this year could be a big year for him since he has now made it up to Gwinnett in the Atlanta Braves organization.

A continuation of what he’s currently doing at the plate, plus a productive season in Triple-A this year, could really turn some attention to his Major League debut coming real soon.

The truth of the matter is, Alex Jackson could be a future option at the catcher position for the Atlanta Braves. And right now he’s doing his part to make that happen.
