Tuesday was a great day all around for the Atlanta Braves with some positive injury news before their game against the New York Yankees.

Needless to say, there has not been a lot of positives for the Atlanta Braves off the field this spring. Between the lack of movement by the front office and the injuries to the pitching staff, it has not been a great couple of weeks.

However, before their game against the New York Yankees on Tuesday we got some positive updates in regards to some of those injuries.

Rain prevented Josh Donaldson from getting his simulated work in, but he will likely make his spring debut on Friday. Mark Bowman also reported that Kevin Gausman is expected to make his spring debut on Friday as well.

It was also reported that Mike Foltynewicz began throwing again on Tuesday. The plan for him right now is to throw a couple of bullpen sessions and one live batting practice before making a start.

It sounds as if Folty could be ready to go by the first or second week of the regular season if there aren’t any more setbacks.

And then in the game against the Yankees Dansby Swanson made his first appearance of the spring and hit two rockets in both of his at-bats. It was very encouraging to see the shortstop back on the field and swinging the bat well.

Mike Soroka began throwing again back on February 28 and will likely be on the same schedule as Folty.

We haven’t received an update lately on A.J. Minter, and I’ve heard nothing recently about Luiz Gohara and when he might be ready to throw again.

While it’s still unfortunate to have this many players — especially pitchers — behind schedule, it does seem like we are starting to see them progressing towards a return.

Hopefully, the next couple of weeks will give us even more clarity as to whether or not these pitchers will be ready for Opening Day.

The Atlanta Braves still haven’t announced an Opening Day starter, but as things stand today I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Sean Newcomb.
