A couple of surprising moves on Sunday as the Atlanta Braves placed Arodys Vizcaino on the injured list and sent Sean Newcomb to Triple-A.

The Atlanta Braves made a couple of moves on Sunday by placing co-closer Arodys Vizcaino on the IL and demoting starting pitcher Sean Newcomb to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Gabe Burns of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution announced both of these moves via Twitter, as well as their corresponding moves.

I don’t know which of these moves is more of a surprise. Vizcaino being injured is nothing new, but he certainly seemed healthy in his first four outings.

But apparently he continues to struggle with shoulder inflammation, and we are once again in a bind because of his health issues.

I honestly don’t know where we go with Viz from here. When he’s on the mound and healthy, he can be lights out. He’s only given up 1 earned run this season in 4 innings pitched on 3 hits and 3 walks with 6 strikeouts and a save.

But if we are planning on him being our closer, and that’s why we haven’t gone after Craig Kimbrel, that needs to change.

Viz cannot be counted on, and we need to find a closer who can be. I love Viz, and when he’s healthy and with the team I’ll be happy, but no longer will I look for him to be the answer as our closer.

The move to the IL is retroactive back to April 7, so it’s possible he could be back as soon as Wednesday if it’s nothing serious.

In the meantime, look for A.J. Minter to get most of the save opportunities.
