The Atlanta Braves looked to improve upon their hot start to their road trip through Ohio. Unfortunately, game 1 did not go the way of the Braves in Cincinnati.

After an exciting end to the series in Cleveland, the Atlanta Braves looked to get a winning streak going as they faced the Reds on Tuesday evening. Kevin Gausman got the start for Atlanta and the Reds had Sonny Gray on the mound.

Gausman was fresh off of an excellent performance that saw him strike out 10 batters. The Braves hoped he could replicate something similar to get a 3 game winning streak going.

It looked early on like Sonny Gray was going to absolutely mow down the Braves and he did so for 5 innings. Gray struck out 9 Braves batters over 5 1/3 innings on 88 pitches. It looked like the offense was in for a long night but they managed to get to Gray in the 6th inning.

The Atlanta Braves offense scored 3 runs in the top of the 6th to take a 4-3 lead against the Reds. Unfortunately, the Reds would have an eventful 6th inning as well. An error by Josh Donaldson allowed Jose Iglesias to reach first base and Iglesias would then score on a double from former Braves prospect Jose Peraza.

The bullpen would allow 4 runs to score in the bottom of the 6th giving the Reds a 7-4 lead. The Braves fought back to bring themselves within one run of Cincinnati but would ultimately drop game 1 by a final score of 7-6.

Let’s discuss a few takeaways from Tuesday’s loss.
