Three takeaway as Atlanta Braves endure a bad series loss in Pittsburgh
By James Kunkle
The Atlanta Braves offense went cold after the first inning and the pitching let the Pirates have two big offensive innings in the 6-1 loss Thursday.
The Atlanta Braves had a terrible time in Pittsburgh, especially the starting pitching, which gave 15 runs in 15 innings during the 3-game series.
Now they travel to Miami and look to gain the ground they have lost over the last two days. Let’s look at the biggest takeaways from Thursday.
1. Stay hot Freddie Freeman
Freddie Freeman accounted for the only run the Atlanta Braves scored Thursday as he belted a solo shot in the first inning to dead center. That home run was his third in the last five games.
Freddie has also scored a run in all five of those games.
To tack on a bit further, that home run was Freeman’s ninth in his last 75 at-bats.
I’ve said this a few times, but when Freeman get’s hot like this, and if Riley keeps going like he is, just a good outburst by Acuna or Donaldson would make the Braves offense potentially the most lethal — not only in the National League — but maybe in all of baseball.
With this hot streak, Freddie is also making a case to be the first baseman on the NL All-star team, but honestly he will have to stay hot for a while because some other first baseman in the league are tearing it up as well.
But again, hopefully, Freddie can stay hot and some other Braves will join him.
