The Atlanta Braves are certainly capable of making some noise in the postseason this year, but that doesn’t mean they should be all in.

There is an ongoing argument among fans on Twitter as to whether or not the Atlanta Braves should go for it all this season.

Some are ready to give up the farm to acquire that top of the rotation starter and/or closer, while some hope the Atlanta Braves do nothing and continue competing for the future.

So let me make the case for the later.

There is a very good argument to be made for the Atlanta Braves not giving up any of their top prospects in order to make the postseason this season and compete this time around.

The Atlanta Braves are set to win for a really long time, and they’ve done that by stockpiling prospects in their organization.

It doesn’t make a ton of sense to blow up that prospect capital just to make the playoffs this year and maybe win their first playoff series since 2001.

On MLB Central the other day, Jon Morosi talked about a possible trade between the Giants and Braves where the Braves would get Madison Bumgarner and Will Smith for Cristian Pache, Ian Anderson, and Kolby Allard.

I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw that trade and the prospects he had the Atlanta Braves giving up.

If that’s what it’s really going to take for the Braves to get a frontline starter (some don’t even consider MadBum a top of the rotation starter at this point, but I do) and a closer, then forget it.

Earlier this year I wrote an article listing 5 prospects who should be untouchable. Pache and Anderson were both on this list, so I would obviously be disgusted to see them moved.

This doesn’t mean the Atlanta Braves shouldn’t try to improve their bullpen this summer to make sure they win the division and return to the playoffs, but I don’t see them making a blockbuster move.

More than likely, we’ll see Alex Anthopoulos make a couple of small moves to improve the bullpen like he already has in acquiring Anthony Swarzak and Jerry Blevins.

I really don’t think he’s going to trade a top 10 prospect from the Atlanta Braves unless it’s Allard or Luiz Gohara.

The only reason you make a big move this year is if you think this team can beat the Dodgers. And honestly, I just don’t think this roster is ready.

However, if AA decides to get bold and makes a big move for a starter and closer with team control, I’ll be on board.

But as it stands right now, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for the Atlanta Braves to trade the farm and go for it this season.
