The Atlanta Braves stayed hot Monday defeating the Milwaukee Brewers. Let’s recap the game.

The Atlanta Braves rode a Freddie Freeman 3-run home run to a 4-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers Monday evening. Let’s recap the game with our three biggest takeaway’s.

3. Max Fried needed this bounce back

After a spectacular start to his season, Max Fried had been hit a little harder this past month or so. I’ve even speculated on this site if it was in the best interest for everyone if he maybe moved to the bullpen to close out the year.

He no doubt elongated his stay in the rotation with his pitching Monday though. It wasn’t spectacular but he was able to pitch 5 innings of 3 hit ball.

The lone problem was it seems a blister forming on his finger made the Braves remove him from the game after the 5 innings. At least he was able to get credit for the win though.

Let’s go back to the blister issue because this isn’t the first time Fried has had to battle them. Let’s hope it doesn’t continue to affect his career a la the way it has Rich Hill or Aaron Sanchez. Although you have to assume the Atlanta Braves will have to figure something out with how many curveball’s Fried likes to throw.

Perhaps it was the extended break that gave Fried some rest to allow him to have his best start in almost two months, but let’s all hope this was a sign of things to come again in the second half for the young lefty.

Hopefully as well he will be able to make his next start. A key sign will be if the Braves elect to place him on the IL today when they have to recall Bryse Wilson to make the start for Tuesday night’s game.
