Atlanta Braves: 3 Takeaways from Tuesday’s lopsided loss to the Brewers
By Steven Teal
The Atlanta Braves looked to win yet another series Tuesday night against the Brewers. Milwaukee had other plans as they took game 2 with an ugly 13-1 final.
On Tuesday night the Atlanta Braves took to the field hoping they’d be able to continue to separate themselves from the rest of the NL East.
Unfortunately, that was not the case at all. Bryse Wilson struggled to find command of his fastball and the bullpen couldn’t stop the bleeding either.
It was one of the worst pitched games I’ve seen the Braves have in a while. Bryse Wilson, Jerry Blevins, Huascar Ynoa, and Touki Toussaint combined for 13 runs allowed on 13 hits while walking 9 batters.
I’ll give Ynoa a bit of a break because he is still working on his mechanics at the Major League level. He was called up recently after Jacob Webb was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right elbow impingement.
However, Touki Toussaint has continued to struggle with his fastball command. It seems that it’s becoming a bit of a pattern.
I hate to see that because I think Touki has tons of potential. It just seems like he would have started to improve a bit more than he has. If he can just fix his fastball command, he’d be much more successful.
When you struggle to find the zone, good teams are going to feast on that eventually. The Brewers are not a team you can afford to fall behind in the count to.
The Brewers offense woke up in a major way on Tuesday as they try to work out of the recent slump they’ve been in.
It wasn’t hard as Brandon Woodruff held the Braves offense to just 1 run on 5 hits. The Brewers bullpen that normally struggles to get others out, held together quite well on Tuesday night.
That team is dangerous when they’re firing on all cylinders. Unfortunately, it got ugly and the Braves received a taste of their own medicine.
Let’s talk a bit more about what happened during Tuesday’s game.
