With trade rumors flying around concerning the Atlanta Braves, it wasn’t surprising to see another pop up. Zack Greinke, ace for the Diamondbacks is reportedly available and the Atlanta Braves could be in the hunt for him.

An MLB.com article discussed seven teams that should go after Zack Greinke, including the Atlanta Braves. That spawned a few other articles, including one from close to Philly from NJ.com about the possibility.

To put it plainly, this wouldn’t be Zack Greinke’s first trade deadline rodeo. He’s already been involved in two deadline deals.

In 2010, he was traded from the Kansas City Royals with Yuniesky Betancourt and cash to the Milwaukee Brewers for Lorenzo CainAlcides EscobarJeremy Jeffress and Jake Odorizzi.

In 2012, he was traded from the Milwaukee Brewers to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for Johnny HellwegAriel Pena and Jean Segura.

My first thought on this was holy cow, what a haul the Royals got in 2010.

The best of the bunch has been Lorenzo Cain, but Odorizzi has been a solid starting pitcher and is in the midst of a potential career year with the Minnesota Twins, as he already has 11 wins.

Jeffress, a late-inning reliever, has been worth eight wins above replacement in his career including an All-Star campaign in 2018. Alcides Escobar was an All-Star and gold glover in 2015 that also played in 162 games for the Royals in three separate seasons.

The package acquired by the Brewers was much less appealing, but Jean Segura is no joke. Over eight years, he’s appeared with five different organizations in the majors. He earned All-Star berths with Milwaukee in 2013 and Seattle in 2018. In 2016 for Arizona, he rapped 203 hits and popped 20 home runs.
