Hey! Remember that the Atlanta Braves had a pretty important rubber match against division rival Washington on Wednesday?

Sure, with the noon start time and Trade Deadline madness – a complete overhaul of the bullpen that brought Chris Martin, Shane Greene, and Mark Melacon to Atlanta – it may have been easy miss, but the Atlanta Braves picked up a pivotal series win against the Nationals on Wednesday afternoon, edging second-place Washington by a final of 5-4 in a wild 10-inning contest.

It was a game that started beautifully for Atlanta, was turned sideways late, and was saved at the end by some clutch offense.

Sound familiar? Seems like the Braves have acted out this script a time or two before this year.

It’s more of the same for an Atlanta Braves team that now stretches its lead in the NL East to 6.5 games – and its record to 64-45 – with the victory over the Nationals.

Mike Soroka was very Mike-Like, as he dazzled the Nationals with 7 runs of one-run ball.

Ronald Acuna, Jr. became just the sixth Brave in history to join the 25 HR/25 stolen base club when he swiped a bag in the 4th inning.

The Braves offense was good enough for seven extra-base hits in the series rubber match, with two separate instances of consecutive doubles that led to runs, not to mention a couple more long balls from Adam Duvall and Josh Donaldson.

It took every single one of those key extra-baggers to hold off Washington, who – much like they did on Tuesday night – came storming hard against a beleaguered Atlanta bullpen in the late innings.

In the end, the relief corps did what they had to do to keep the Nationals from winning the game in the 9th, and the Braves’ bats did what they had to do to win it in the 10th.

Here’s three of our biggest takeaways from a wild one in Washington on Deadline Day.
