Max Fried had a rough first inning during Tuesday’s matchup with the Phillies. Those early blows and a key defensive miscue ultimately cost the Atlanta Braves as they drop game two of the series 6-5.

It wasn’t the best of starts for Max Fried on Tuesday evening, Max has been one of the most impressive pitchers for the Atlanta Braves in 2019.

Unfortunately, he was greeted rudely by the Phillies offense in the first inning of Tuesday’s contest.

Much like the Braves jumped on Aaron Nola early on Monday, the Phillies returned the favor during Tuesday’s first inning.

The Phillies tallied four extra-base hits including 3 home runs in the bottom of the first. This put the Braves offense on the ropes for the remainder of the game.

However, if you’re anything like me, you didn’t lose hope after a 4 spot in the first inning. This Atlanta Braves offense can cover 4 runs in no time.

Sure enough, Atlanta did just that in the top of the third inning. The Braves would bat around in that inning as Phillies starter Jason Vargas struggled to throw strikes.

Vargas even committed an error that gifted the Braves a run on a swinging bunt by Francisco Cervelli. Vargas attempted a glove flip to home plate and the ball skipped under Realmuto’s glove allowing Donaldson to score standing up.

Austin Riley would then tie the game at 4 runs apiece as he rocketed a ball to left-center field. He would only be rewarded with a sacrifice fly after Scott Kingery made an impressive diving catch to rob Austin of what would have been a double in the gap.

The final blows to Atlanta included an inside-the-park home run and another solo homer. The inside-the-park homer was almost a highlight-reel play for Ronald Acuna Jr. Unlucky for Acuna, he dropped the ball as he landed on his feet after trying to rob the home run.

It was a tough night for the Atlanta Braves but they still trimmed their magic number to clinch the NL East to 9 games thanks to a Nationals loss to the Twins.

Let’s discuss some important details from Tuesday’s loss.
