Will another early postseason exit signal a failed 2019 for Atlanta Braves?

If the Atlanta Braves lose in the NLDS again, will we look back on the 2019 season as a failure? Or will we decide to look at the progress younger players made and look ahead to 2020?

Everyone knows the history of the Atlanta Braves and the playoffs. We have all heard it time after time and it is a thorn in all our sides.

However, it bears repeating that the Atlanta Braves haven’t won a playoff series since 2001, and have now lost eight straight playoff series (that includes the infield fly wild card game)

So back to the main question, will this season be considered a success if the Atlanta Braves lose again in quick fashion?

While some may argue that, yes, it would be, I think it’s important to look at the other side of this.

No matter what happens over the next few weeks, we saw in 2019 Ronald Acuna prove he is going to be one of the best players in the game for a long, long time and he is signed with the Braves for a long time as well.

Almost the same exact thing can be said of Ozzie Albies.

Mike Soroka proved he can be a leader of the pitching staff for a while. He has proven that despite his age and his career just taking off, he can pitch with anyone on any given day.

Max Fried showed some signs of being a great pitcher, too. Obviously he wasn’t as consistent as Soroka, but he proved that he could hang with the best of them.

With all of that being said though, the Atlanta Braves are going to eventually have to push past that threshold and gain some postseason success.

Being completely honest, the Atlanta Braves are one of the four best teams in the game when completely healthy. The only weakness is the bullpen, and since August, even that isn’t a severe downfall.

Combine that with the fact that we are going to play either the Cardinals or Brewers, we should win that series no doubt.

Hopefully this is the year that we end the curse that has been known as the NLDS and get past it.

I’m not saying we should go to the World Series, but I’m not saying we shouldn’t either. The bottom line is, the Atlanta Braves should be playing in the NLCS in 2019.

If they aren’t, will I say this season was a failure, probably not, but of course I will be disappointed.

The fact is,  this is the first time in a long time where I feel we aren’t overpowered in the playoffs.
