The Atlanta Braves may not have made it to the World Series this year, but a couple of former catchers will be there Tuesday night.

It has been announced that former Atlanta Braves catchers Brian McCann and Evan Gattis will be part of the ceremonial first pitch in Game 1 of the 2019 World Series.

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems a little odd that the Astros would have McCann and Gattis as part of the first pitch in the World Series.

I get that they were part of the 2017 team that won it all, but are there really not any better choices for Game 1?

Perhaps I’m overthinking the importance of a ceremonial first pitch.

Either way, it is really cool that two former Atlanta Braves catchers will be such a big part of Game 1 of the World Series.

Gattis made his Major League debut with the Atlanta Braves in 2013 and spent two seasons with them before spending the next four season with the Houston Astros.

McCann, who announced his retirement after the Braves final game in 2019, spent 10 years in Atlanta (2005-2013 and 2019) and two seasons with the Astros.

On Monday it was announced that Brian McCann would be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before Game 1 to Evan Gattis.

I guess the Astros are trying to bring back a little magic from the 2017 season where the two combined to go 8-for-35 with 6 walks and a home run.

It’s also a little curious that Mac is throwing to Gattis as McCann was obviously the better catcher throughout his career, but again, I’m probably being too critical of a first pitch.

And for Atlanta Braves fans that were looking for another reason, or any reason, to cheer against the Washington Nationals in this World Series, having two former Braves throw out the first pitch of Game 1 should help.
