Predicting the coming Atlanta Braves off-season
By Fred Owens
Who could that mean?
I’ve looked at his history before the win-now impetus took over and searched for players that fit the formula and are at least two percent better. In areas where we struggled to play at league average, I’ve tried to find players two percent better than the league.
Not all of these players are lesser-known; some are excess to their current team’s needs. Others are players that need a new voice and a change of scenery, along with players who have a history of playing well but had a down year.
Over the next few days, I’ll provide the names of players that reflect the way I see the inner GM of Alex Anthopoulos; the things that emerged from his less noticed deals in Toronto and since taking the reins of the Atlanta Braves.
That’s a wrap
I realize the conclusions drawn by Ian Hunter aren’t those of the mainstream sports media, but there’s logic in his what he says. Anthopoulos’ history, aside from the two deals in 2012 and the 2015 Tulowitzki trade, is just as Hunter presented them and the way he’s done business so far for the Atlanta Braves.
Anthopoulos remains as secretive as Atlanta Braves GM as he was with the Jays. If nothing else, perhaps this will give us a better feel for the deals he does make this winter. I’m sure you’ll tell me when I’m wrong.
