3 Atlanta Braves players that won’t be on 2020 Opening Day roster
While the Atlanta Braves had a very successful season in 2019, we could see a lot of change during the offseason to shake things up.
The Atlanta Braves have proven they have the talent on hand to win a division title and make the postseason.
But if they’re going to take the next step and get to a World Series — and hopefully win one — it might be time they start making some drastic changes and take some chances.
I’m not going to be focusing on players who were with the Atlanta Braves last year and are now free agents, or even players like Tyler Flowers and Nick Markakis who have team options.
Although, if I were writing about Flowers and Markakis in this article I’d say neither needs to be on the Opening Day roster next year. And that the Braves should look for major upgrades at their positions in the offseason.
I’m also not going to discuss any of the players I mentioned in a previous article looking at 5 players most likely to be traded this offseason.
Let me also give you the players who I think are absolutely safe this offseason: Freddie Freeman, Ronald Acuna Jr., Ozzie Albies, Mike Soroka, and Max Fried.
Dansby Swanson is on the fringe of that list, and relievers like Shane Greene and Mark Melancon are safe. But everyone else is expendable, in my opinion.
Instead, we’ll be focusing on the players on the 40-man roster who have not lived up to expectations but could still have value in a trade to help the Braves make major upgrades.
Again, after watching the Washington Nationals win the World Series, it’s time for the Braves to go for it all in 2020.
I know a lot of the fanbase is tired of just winning division titles, and that shouldn’t just be enough for the players or front office either.
The Braves window to win a World Series starts now. The foundation is there, but they’ll have to take some chances like the Nationals did by signing Patrick Corbin or the Astros did by trading for Zack Greinke.
And with that, here are three players who are expendable that I don’t think will be on the Braves 2020 Opening Day roster.
