It’s still super early, but with a Braves 2020 schedule that’ll bring the game’s best player to Atlanta, it’s never too early to examine what’s on the docket for this upcoming season.

Maybe it was lost in the shuffle of the Atlanta Braves regular season stretch drive, or maybe it was the back-and-forth battle of the National League Division Series (what a series!).

Perhaps it has gone unnoticed due to seven exciting and dramatic games in the 2019 World Series. Whatever it was, there hasn’t been enough talk about the Atlanta Braves’ upcoming 2020 schedule.

I know of all the things to discuss during an MLB offseason, schedules aren’t the most stimulating topics on hand. But this one should garner some attention.

The Atlanta Braves 2020 schedule was released back in mid-August from several different sources, but more notably from Mark Bowman and MLB.com, as Bowman even wrote a small piece about it. His first paragraph in that write-up…

"“An attractive 2020 Braves home schedule will provide Atlanta fans a chance to see Ronald Acuna Jr. and Mike Trout compete against each other for the first time.”"

Wait… what?

How did this not set of alarms and stir up endless amounts of comparisons? You know… the usual hyperbole that occurs daily on social media: Trout vs. Acuna!

All kidding aside, though, this upcoming schedule looks to be chock-full of potential storylines and narratives, and it’s not all about Acuna and Trout (well, maybe not entirely…).

A busy April

Opening Day for the Braves will be in Arizona on March 26, as the Braves and Arizona Diamondbacks kick off the 2020 campaign with a 4-game series in the desert. Once done with their first series in Arizona, the Braves will then hit the road for San Diego and take on Manny Machado and the Padres for three games.

Altogether, the Braves will spend its first 7 games of the 2020 season on the road before finally opening the doors at SunTrust Park on April 3 — the first contest of a three-game series against the Miami Marlins.

After those three with the Fish, the Padres will visit the Bravos for four games before the team hits the road again for 8-straight games.

All-in-all, the start of the 2020 season features a lot of traveling for the Braves, though by the middle of the month things begin to settle down. The Braves’ first homestand will begin on April 17 and run through April 26, pitting them against the San Francisco Giants, Diamondbacks and New York Mets.

The final series of April will be in Cincinnati, as the Braves face its old friend Kevin Gausman and the Reds at Great American Ball Park (Apr. 27-29).

So the first month looks to be a busy one for the Braves, but also includes some matchups of interest as they face a young aspiring Padres club, as well as a D-Backs and Mets team that should be at least early contenders. And don’t overlook that series with the Reds, as Cincinnati is looking to finally make some noise in 2020.

But that’s just one month! Unless a meteorite hits Earth and changes the world as we know it, there will be six full months of regular season baseball in 2020; 162 games worth of fresh stories to write about from April through September.

Let’s look ahead at five Braves’ series on the 2020 schedule that we should all be circling.
