Josh Donaldson will have a busy market this offseason as teams look to sign the former MVP, including the Atlanta Braves.

There is no doubt the Atlanta Braves would like to have Josh Donaldson back, but they could be in competition with a number of teams for his services.

While the Braves certainly benefitted from his great 2019 season in which he hit 37 home runs and drove in 94 runs while accruing a WAR of over six in the process, it will make it more difficult for the home team to sign him this offseason.

And beyond, Donaldson was amazing defensively at third base erasing any questions or concerns about his injury history. He was the second-best defensive third baseman in the National League in 2019, coming in behind perennial NL Gold Glove winner, Nolan Arenado.

Unlike last offseason where Donaldson was basically forced to sign a one-year deal to re-establish his value, he’ll likely have a ton of teams offering him a multi-year deal.

The Braves will certainly be one of them, but I personally don’t think the Braves will want to go beyond a two-year deal.

My guess here is that whichever team is willing to give him a guaranteed three years will land the slugging third baseman.

We’re going to look at six teams who will likely have interest in Donaldson this offseason and give the odds each team has of signing him.

Of course, a lot will depend on who Anthony Rendon signs with as Donaldson is likely a fallback option for teams that miss out on Rendon.
