Atlanta Braves Josh Donaldson

We continue to discuss the possibility of the Atlanta Braves re-signing Josh Donaldson by looking at what it will likely cost and what Atlanta should be willing to pay.

With the offseason in full swing and GM meetings taking place this week, we look at what it might cost to sign Josh Donaldson and how far the Atlanta Braves are willing to go to re-sign him.

Earlier this week we talked about which teams could be in on the free agent third baseman, but we really didn’t discuss what it might cost.

Everybody knows the numbers by now, but Donaldson is coming off a spectacular 2019 season in which he hit 37 home runs, drove in 94, scored 96, walked 100 times, and had an OPS of .900.

And he did all of that at the plate while playing Gold Glove caliber defense at the hot corner.

Because of that, Donaldson could be looking at making some serious cash this offseason even as he turns 34 years old in December.

MLB Trade Rumors predicts he’ll get a three-year for $75 million, but I think he might get even more than that.

I know a lot of Braves fans are hoping they’ll back up the Brinks truck to Donaldsons’ house, but I don’t think Alex Anthopoulos is going to let that happen.

And while I believe Josh Donaldson loved his time in Atlanta, this is his last big payday before retiring and he’s going to cash in.

Let’s first take a look at what it might cost by looking at similar free agents that have hit the market recently.
