The Atlanta Braves announced Monday morning that they have extended both GM Alex Anthopoulos and team manager Brian Snitker.

The Atlanta Braves extended the contract for Alex Anthopoulos through the 2024 season, and gave him the new title of president of baseball operations.

They also extended Brian Snitker’s contract through the 2021 season, which the team held a club option through anyways. Essentially they picked up the team option before the 2020 season.

Along with those two moves, the Atlanta Braves also went ahead and guaranteed Brian Snitker’s entire coaching staff a contract for the 2021 season as well.

It seems as if the Atlanta Braves and Liberty Media are pleased with the direction of the Atlanta Braves, and frankly, coming off back to back division titles and having a team that looks loaded for the long haul, why wouldn’t they be?

Alex Anthopoulos became the Braves general manager after the resignation of former general manager John Coppolella in October of 2017. He was in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization at the time, but was most well known as being the former general manager of the Toronto Blue Jays, a spot he occupied while the organization had the most success they have seen since the early 1990’s.

Thus far, Alex Anthopoulos has seemed to try and keep the main core of prospects in the system, and has opted to use the free agency route with big moves – utilizing the trade market for mid-tier names.

However, he was lauded for his below market extensions for stars Ronald Acuna and Ozzie Albies.

Brian Snitker, who as we all know has spent his whole baseball career with the Atlanta Braves, was appointed to the manager of the big league club in May of 2016 after the team decided to part ways with then manager Fredi Gonzalez.

Brian Snitker was handed a roster not full of talent, but has grown together with the team since taking over, was named the National League manager of the year in 2018, and was once again a finalist in 2019.

He has managed 610 career games so far and has an above .500 record with 318 wins and 292 losses.
