Atlanta Braves 2020 Roster Prediction Halfway Through Spring Training
Third Base
Now we finally get into some controversy. And I’ll go ahead and tell you, this is what I would do and is not what I think will happen.
I think the Braves will send Austin Riley down to Triple-A to start the season and let him get everyday at-bats in real games to see if what we’ve seen in spring training is real.
But I would start Riley at third base to open the season based on what I’ve seen this spring.
We all know how hot Riley can get when he’s in a groove, and he certainly seems to be in a groove right now.
I know it’s just spring training, but if he can carry that into the season, he can provide the same type of spark as when he came up in 2019.
The defense is not a question for me as he’s looked really good there during spring training.
Plus, I just feel like this lineup is much scarier with Riley hitting fifth or sixth — assuming he continues to have at-bats like he has in spring training.
Others
As I said, I think the Braves will give this job to Camargo to start the season. But I also think we’ll see Camargo and Riley get a lot of reps at third base throughout the season.
If not one of them, Hechavarría can also play at the hot corner.
