It’s wonderful to wish our beloved sport back onto the field. In Atlanta Braves podcast 16, we remind all there’s a lot of work still to do.

June 10.  July 1st.  Dates are being tossed around this week as if there’s nothing more that needs to be done to get the Atlanta Braves and the rest of MLB back onto the field except waiting for time to pass.

That’s almost like suggesting that A-Rod and J-Lo can buy the Mets based on good looks and a few promises.  Just look to see how far that got.

Over the years, we have gotten used to seeing teams show up in Arizona or Florida, play 5 weeks of games, and then scatter about the country to play a 162-game schedule.  It’s been routine.

This year: nothing is going to be routine.

In this week’s podcast, co-editor Jake is all fired up and ready to get things moving – just as if we were back in a regular February with pitchers and catchers reporting per usual.

Playing the role of Muppets curmudgeons Waldorf and Stantler, Fred and Alan point out that while his optimism is not misplaced, the work to bring back baseball is not a done deal – not even close.

In the end, this probably gets done.  There’s just too much at stake for both sides and thus ‘failure’ would have to be reserved for circumstances beyond control — like a second wave of the virus locking everyone down again.

In the meantime, it’s about money, a plan for a schedule, roster sizes, a “Spring Training 2.0”, and more about money.  We talk about all of that… and we never did get around to the topic of seeing our Atlanta Braves in some re-hashed version of the Central divisions.

It’s a quick 38 minutes of detail that you might not have thought about.  Baseball will have to deal with this – and more – before announcing anything.

Next. June or bust?. dark

Thanks for listening!
