As we quickly approach the 2020 MLB Draft we look at the times, dates, where to watch and when the Atlanta Braves will be picking.

To say the 2020 MLB Draft, which will take place on June 10, will be one-of-a-kind for the Atlanta Braves and the rest of baseball might be an understatement.

This draft was first scheduled to take place the week before the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. — something I was very excited about as a huge college baseball fan.

But like everything else right now in our world, plans have been changed.

Not only will the 2020 MLB Draft be done remotely, but the rounds have been reduced from 40 to just five, which is more than just a little change.

They will do the first 37 picks on June 10 on MLB Network at 7 p.m. ET and then the rest of the draft will take place on June 11 at 5 p.m. ET also on MLB Network.

The Braves were already looking at a rather small draft after losing a couple of high picks by the signings of Will Smith and Marcell Ozuna. But now with just five rounds they’ll really have a small pool of players to choose from.

Of course, the Braves and other teams will be allowed to sign eligible non-drafted players for up $20,000 after the draft and I expect there will be a lot of players signed that way.

The Braves’ highest pick will be 25th overall, but then they don’t pick again until 97 in the third round.

Overall, the Braves will have just four (FOUR!) picks in the 2020 MLB Draft.

It will be imperative for their scouts — who haven’t had much to scout in the past three months — to make the right choices.

That’s why I think you’ll see a very college heavy draft going with players you have more of a sample size of and players who are safer bets to make an impact in the big leagues.

It’s also very possible you see a lot of high school players choose to skip this draft and go to a junior college for a couple of years until baseball gets back on its feet economically.
