As we prepare for the 2020 MLB Draft this week we look at the latest mocks and see who they have the Atlanta Braves taking in the first round.

I for one am very excited about the 2020 MLB Draft that will start this Wednesday, June 10 even if the Atlanta Braves have very few picks in the five-round draft.

It will at least be an actual baseball event and it will hopefully give us a break from the ongoing drama between the owners and players.

In this article I just want to quickly look at some of the lastest mock drafts out there and see who they have the Braves taking at 25th overall.

It’s nearly impossible to predict the MLB Draft, especially one as weird as this one will be. And it’s even harder to try and predict anything outside of the top 10 picks.

That will become very evident as we look at these different mocks and see that not a single one agrees on who the Braves will take at 25.

The first one is from Bleacher Report who has the Braves taking right-handed pitcher Tanner Burns. This would be a dream come true for an Auburn grad like me as I love Burns and think he has top of the rotation talent. But health has been a big issue with him.

I found two different mocks from CBS Sports from the same writer. One has the Braves taking right-handed pitcher Bryce Jarvis from Duke while the other has them selecting right-handed pitcher Chris McMahon from Miami.

I talk about both Burns and Jarvis in more detail in the related article below.

Both of them would be really solid targets at 25 as they both have the potential to be top of the rotation arms or at the least elite relievers.

McMahon is someone I project to have a middle of the rotation ceiling, so he doesn’t excite me nearly as much.

Keith Law of the Athletic (paid subscription required) is the only recent mock I could find that has the Braves taking a high school player.

He has them taking right-handed pitching Jared Kelley from Refugio, Texas.

With the lack of bonus pool money the Braves have and the uncertainty that comes with high school pitchers, I find it very hard to believe the Braves would take a high school player in the first round.

Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com has the Braves taking Texas Tech right-handed pitcher Clayton Beeter.

As someone who is a college baseball enthusiast, I’ve honestly never heard of this guy. Apparently he is a high-upside arm that has struggled to stay on the field because of injuries.

When he’s been on the field he’s been dominant with 62 strikeouts in just over 40 innings.

And finally, the latest mock draft from Prospects 365 has the Braves taking Arkansas infielder Casey Martin.

This is the only recent mock I’ve seen that has the Braves taking something other than a pitcher.

I’ve always been a big fan of Martin as he’s a little guy that plays big. He would have really cut down on the swings-and-misses though at the next level.

And some think he can transition to center field, but I don’t really see that in his skill set.

As you can see the predictions for the Braves at 25 are all over the place. But I think it’s a pretty safe bet that they’ll take a college pitcher in the first round.

However, the Braves rarely do what I expect or want them to do in the first round, so we’ll see. Of these names, who do you like the most?
