We break down the road for the Atlanta Braves in the 2020 season after their 60-game schedule was released on Monday night.

The Atlanta Braves enter the 2020 season as back-to-back NL East champions. Not only will they be trying to retain that honor, but they’ll have to knock off the defending World Series champions to do so.

There is no question that the NL East may be one of the toughest divisions in all of baseball, and with both East divisions matching up in interleague play those teams have the most difficult road to the postseason.

But somebody has to win those games, so why not the Braves.

We already know the Braves have one of the deepest rosters in baseball with a good mix of youth and veterans.

Even with Felix Hernandez and Nick Markakis opting out, it’s just next man up.

I still feel confident the Braves are the favorites to win the NL East in 2020.

Let’s break down the schedule by each month and give our predictions for each month to see just what the Braves will need to do in order to win the NL East for a third consecutive year.

July (8 games – Record: 5-3)

Atlanta will start the season on the road playing three games against the New York Mets. And yes, having to face Jacob deGrom and that pitching staff to start a short season won’t be fun, but I’d almost rather face them early.

You’d have to expect teams will be a little cautious with their starters at the beginning of the season, so maybe we only see their starters for five innings.

Plus, the Mets still have to score for their starters and I feel confident our starters and bullpen can hold down their offense. That’s a series win.

And then the Braves travel to Tampa for two games and then play the Rays two more times at home.

Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and Charlie Morton won’t be much easier, but again, you hope they’re possibly on an innings limit to start the season. I’ll take a split of these four games.

They end the month of July with one game at home against the Mets.
