Adam Duvall lifted the scoring drought to begin the 2020 season for the Atlanta Braves with a home run that hit a dog.

We’ve said it several times now, but the 2020 season will be unlike anything we’ve ever seen. The Atlanta Braves have already experienced that in several ways.

Before their first game of the season, they lost both of their catchers because they had COVID-19 symptoms — something we’re sure to see happen a lot this season with teams being cautious.

And then after being shutout on Opening Day, the Atlanta Braves finally scored a run in 2020 thanks to a home run from Adam Duvall. But it’s where the ball landed that just adds to the bizarreness of this 2020 season.

With cardboard cutouts put in the stands to help fill the empty stadium, Duvall’s long shot just happened to take the cardboard life of a dog in the right-field bleachers. And I didn’t realize this at the time, but according to CBS Sports, it was actually a cardboard cutout of Jeff McNeil’s dog.

I don’t feel quite as bad now because of all the damage McNeil has done to the Atlanta Braves.

I joke in the headline, but you never know, PETA can be crazy sometimes. Hopefully they don’t take offense to Duvall’s blast that nailed that pup.

But going back to Duvall, this is a guy who we’ve probably written 10 articles on about how he could be traded. With the depth the Braves have in the outfield he’s always seemed expendable.

However, he’s provided some of the biggest moments in the last handful of Braves games.

I was in the stands — the last time I was in the stands for a big-league game — when he crushed that home run in game two of the NLDS to pad the lead for the Braves and even up the series.

And with the offense struggling mightily against the great pitching staff the Mets have, Duvall finally helps them breakthrough by scoring the first run of the season for the Atlanta Braves.

Next. The Offense is Alive!. dark

There are times I’m certainly glad I’m not running this team because I wrote Duvall off after that 2018 season. But he’s now a very important piece to the roster and we’re lucky to have him.
