I was very big on Tucker Davidson going into the first round of spring training for the Atlanta Braves and would love to see him get a shot.

The main reason I have Davidson in the top spot and not the more highly regarded prospect in Ian Anderson is that Davidson is already on the 40-man roster.

Plus, I think Davidson is more deserving at this point and more likely to succeed right now.

The 24-year-old lefty posted a 2.15 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A last year over 129.2 innings with 134 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.25.

Posting a BB/9 of 3.7 is a bit alarming, especially considering that number was even higher in Triple-A.

And despite the good outings in spring training, he still surrendered 4 walks in 6.1 innings.

The Braves need a guy who is going to throw strikes and not give us the inconsistency that Folty and Newcomb are giving us.

But I was able to watch Davidson in person last year and while he’s stuff certainly wasn’t overwhelming, he never seemed rattled on the mound with runners on base and was able to work out of jams.

If he can translate that kind of poise to the big league level then I think he’ll be just fine. I’d like to see him get his first shot for the Braves.
