Monday was a very rough day for the Atlanta Braves as they wound up losing their best starting pitcher for the rest of the season.

As the Atlanta Braves continue to look for arms to really fill out four spots now in the rotation, it’s going to be up to Max Fried to steady everything.

After a devastating day like Monday, Fried has the opportunity to put everyone at ease if he can put up a dominant performance against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.

It’s certainly a lot of pressure for the lefty, and you can imagine the emotions he’s feeling for his rotation mate.

No one could really blame him if he’s mind was elsewhere on Tuesday night.

But if he can stay composed out there it could go a really long way in settling everyone down and lifting the spirit of the Braves.

I wrote before the season that I thought Fried should be considered among the Cy Young favorites in this 2020 season, and he’s gotten off to a really good start.

In two starts he’s given up 3 earned runs on just 5 hits and 3 walks in 11.2 innings with 12 strikeouts.

With Soroka now out for the season, the Braves are going to need Fried to step up even more to lead this starting rotation which is full of a bunch of question marks.

Of course, Fried can’t do it by himself. Others in the back-end of the rotation will need to do their part.

But Fried can give the Braves a lot of confidence that they’re going to have a great chance to win every fifth day and possibly end a losing streak.

The season isn’t over — the game must go one. And if the Braves want to see their dreams become a reality in 2020 then they’re going to need Max Fried to become the Cy Young candidate we know he can be.
