Even though this has been another rough week for the Atlanta Braves on and off the field, the team remains in a good position to make the postseason.

If you’re having a difficult week as an Atlanta Braves fan with the three straight losses and your best player being injured, let me try to lighten your day.

Had you told me before the season began that after 20 straight games to start the season with the competition and pitching the Braves had to face that they’d be 11-9 over that stretch I would have been more than happy.

In a season where eight National League teams are going to make the postseason, the goal is really to just hovering around .500.

And that’s especially true for the Braves through the first month of the season and the schedule gets much easier in September.

I’ve said from the very beginning that if the Braves can just survive the first month of the season and now fall several games below .500, they’ll be in good shape down the stretch.

Now we still have a couple of weeks to go in August, but right now they are sitting pretty.

That’s more because the rest of the division has been so terrible and the AL East has been beating up on the NL East.

I mean, who would have imagined the Miami Marlins would be in first place at this point in the season? With them and the Braves the only team having a winning record?

Quite frankly, the Mets, Nationals, and Phillies have gotten off to awful starts and that’s really helped ease the concerns of the Braves in the division despite their recent setbacks.

And Alex Anthopoulos will figure out the starting rotation.

Again, getting to September will be huge because you have to figure by that point AA will have made a move for a solid middle of the rotation start that will at least eat some innings and keep us in games.

And then you hope by that point Cole Hamels is ready to go and comes out firing on all cylinders — kind of wishful thinking, but we’re being positive today.

Also, you certainly hope by then that the wrists of Ronald Acuna Jr. and Ozzie Albies are healed up and they’re back to being their joyful selves on the field.

Next. 20 Games; By the Numbers. dark

It’s been a tough week for Braves fans learning your best pitcher is out for the year and now your best position player is banged up, on top of three straight losses. But I’m hear to tell you to turn that from upside down because we still get to watch baseball every night, and this team is still well-positioned to make the postseason in 2020.
