It was a great afternoon for the Atlanta Braves as they got a brilliant start from one of their top pitching prospects and beat the New York Yankees 5-1.

I don’t think the Atlanta Braves could have had a better game one on Wednesday against the New York Yankees.

After getting embarrassed by the Bronx Bombers in New York the Braves came out feisty against the Yankees on Wednesday afternoon.

Ian Anderson, making his big league debut, set the tone with a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first.

And then Ronald Acuna Jr., returning to the lineup after a wrist injury, brushed off a 97 MPH fastball near his head on the first pitch from Gerrit Cole and later took him deep with the second-longest home run in the stadiums’ history.

Dansby Swanson would later hit a 2-run home run and Marcell Ozuna tried to match Acuna with a 469-foot home run to make it 4-0.

But Anderson was the story of this game as he carried a no-hitter through 5.1 in his big league debut.

What was most impressive to me is that Anderson was able to get ahead of hitters with a first-pitch strike to 18-of-22 hitters faced.

That’s the type of command and consistency we’ve been looking for from some of these young starters. They all have great stuff and just need to learn to trust their stuff.

Anderson certainly showed he was capable of that on Wednesday.

The only hit he gave up was a home run to Luke Voit in the sixth inning.

His final line looked like this: 6 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 1 ER, 6 K, W

For a Braves starting rotation looking for any sign of life, you can just imagine how ecstatic the Braves and their fans are after watching their top pitching prospect dominate the Yankees on Wednesday.
