It’s highly unusual, but that’s why Atlanta Braves fans need a heads-up today.

If you’re looking for the telecast of our Atlanta Braves games today against the Miami Marlins, you won’t find it on the usual For Sports channels.

Today marks the first of four ‘Games of the Week’ to appear exclusively on youtube.com.  The entire schedule for this month is…

  • MON/SEPT 7:  Marlins at Braves (1 pm EDT)
  • WED/SEPT 9: Brewers at Tigers (1 pm EDT)
  • FRI/SEPT 18: Royals at Brewers (8 pm EDT)
  • FRI/SEPT 25: Reds at Twins (8 pm EDT)

Today’s game will feature announcers Scott Braun, Kevin Millar and John Smoltz… not to mention Braves rookie Ian Anderson on the mound against the Fish.

The Marlins will counter with someone we’ve gotten to know quite well in the past couple of years:  Jose Urena.

In 16 plate appearances against Urena, Ronald Acuna Jr. has 2 walks, 4 strikeouts, and 4 hits.  One of those hits was a double; another was a home run.

It was a series of homers — three in three games vs. the Marlins in 2018 — that led to that hit-by-pitch incident to begin the teams’ August 15th games in 2018.

The Marlins (not Urena) also thumped Acuna last year by a pitched ball.  So far this season, nothing further has come of those incidents.

The Atlanta Braves (24-16) are now 4.5 games ahead of the Marlins (17-18) in the standings, while Miami still has 5 games in hand that they need to make up on their schedule.  With 7 games remaining between these teams (3 this week and 4 more beginning September 21st), it will clearly be important for the Braves to keep up their momentum and not give Miami any hope of overtaking them.

The Marlins come into this series on a bit of a slide, losing 7 of their last 10 games and holding a -9 run differential.  5 of those losses have come at the hands of the surging Tampa Bay Rays, however.

Next. Let's talk about this bullpen. dark
