September 8th Power Rankings: Now the Atlanta Braves lose Fried
By James Kunkle
We are here! The last little stretch of the year before the playoffs and the push has begun.
Our Atlanta Braves had an up and down week but the worst news came on Tuesday morning. More on that in a bit.
Let’s get to the rankings
30. Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers are 3-17 since the whole debacle with the San Diego Padres occurred. The best bet for the Rangers is too be happy the first season at the new park had no fans, and try and rebound for 2021 at this point.
29. Kansas City Royals
The Kansas City Royals are only one of two teams who already has a 0.0% possibility at earning a playoff spot. Losers of seven in a row, it looks as though the season can not end fast enough for them.
28. Arizona Diamondbacks
How bad are things in the desert? The Diamondbacks only have two wins as a club since August 18th. Let me repeat..two wins in the last three weeks of play. That is horrible
27. Boston Red Sox
Atlanta Braves fans got to see how bad this team has become due to injuries mostly last week. The Red Sox pitching staff is just awful at the moment. They are also the other club that already has a 0.0% chance of the postseason.
26. Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates are playing better as of late, but of course it is way too little and way too late. However, they have been in the bottom couple of these rankings, but I decided to move them up this week.
25. Washington Nationals
Of course the Washington Nationals play the Atlanta Braves tougher when they are playing the worst ball they have played in a few seasons. Luckily the Atlanta Braves came back and was able to earn a split of the four game series.
24. Los Angeles Angels
The Angels have won five in a row including a four game sweep of the Astros over the weekend. If the Angels can stay hot, they still have an outside chance of making the playoffs. Keep an eye out for this team.
23. Detroit Tigers
Being honest, the Tigers higher ups are probably dreading the decent play of the Tigers so far this season. However, these semi meaningful games could be a good thing in a few years for the young core players.
22. New York Mets
The Mets helped the Atlanta Braves a little this weekend as they played the Phillies tough. It would have been a little better if they would have completed the big comeback on Monday though.
21. Baltimore Orioles
Sunday marked 25 years since Cal Ripken became baseballs iron man. I remember being a kid watching that achievement, and all these years later, it is still crazy to think he played in that many consecutive games.
