With Major League Baseball deciding to trim the number of MiLB teams, the Atlanta Braves announced which teams made the cut on Wednesday.

Not much will be changing for the Atlanta Braves and their Minor League affiliates in the coming seasons.

The Gwinnett Stripers will remain the team’s Triple-A affiliate. It’s great to have your Triple-A team so close to the home ballpark.

Their Double-A team will continue to be the Mississippi Braves in the Southern League. They’ve been the Double-A team for Atlanta for 15 years now.

They are making a change in their High-A affiliate, but it’s really just a promotion for the Rome Braves who where formally their Low-A team.

Another team close to home in Georiga that should feature a lot of young, top prospects.

And then the new addition will be the Augusta GreenJackets as the team’s Low-A affiliate.

The GreenJackets have been around for a little while, but this will be their first year with the Braves.

They built a new stadium in 2018 that sits on the border of Georgia and South Carolina, so it’s another park that’s close to home.

Not making the cut here was the Danville Braves of the Appalachian League, which was a Rookie League affliate. That entire league is being revamped into a summer league for college prospects.

Also, the Florida FireFrogs are no longer part of Atlanta’s Minor League system. They had been the team’s High-A affiliate, but they’ve been replaced by Rome.

I’m also not sure if the teams’ foreign rookie leagues will be impacted by this or not. They did have a DSL Braves team, but they weren’t mentioned at all in the Braves’ press release. Perhaps someone in the comments can give us some more insight on that.

As much as I hate that all these great Minor League teams are getting cut, I’m glad to see these four teams with Atlanta and hope to make a trip to each ballpark soon.
