Four Atlanta Braves were nominated for Gold Glove Awards

The Atlanta Braves have four nominees for the 2022 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards which will be announced tonight (11/1) at 5 pm EST. Max Fried, Travis d’Arnaud, Matt Olson, and Dansby Swanson all will be vying to add some hardware to their mantles this evening, although all of them face some tough competition.

The way Gold Glove awards are doled out is that from the list of eligible players (based on innings or games played required depending on the position), up to six coaches from each team cast their votes with the only requirement being that they cannot vote for their own players and that accounts for 75% of a player’s final tally.

The remaining 25% comes from a player’s SABR Defensive Index (SDI). If you want a deeper dive into both how this year’s nominees were selected as well as the Braves nominees’ chances , we had an article go up in October that can get you all caught up.

Gold Gloves are notoriously hard to predict because, frankly, the coach vote can be all over the place. If you need proof of that, Juan Soto (who is a fantastic hitter, but much less fantastic a fielder) is a Gold Glove finalist this year. Fred did a great job in outlining the case for each of the Braves chances and the cases for and against their competition, so I highly recommend you give the article linked about a read. Below, you will find who Fried, TdA, Olson, and Dansby are up against tonight.

Let us know in the comments if you think the Braves are going to take home any Gold Gloves tonight. If you want to take this opportunity to lament that Michael Harris was not a Gold Glove nominee for center field, by all means do that as well.
