Atlanta Braves Offseason News, Rumors, 2023 payroll, and more

We are officially in full baseball offseason mode as we await more news about what the 2023 Atlanta Braves are going to look like. The Braves are fortunate that they have been able to extend so many of their young stars like Ronald Acuna Jr., Ozzie Albies, Austin Riley, Michael Harris II, and Spencer Strider. However, there is still work to be done.

The biggest question of the offseason without question is shortstop with the fate of Dansby Swanson firmly at the top of everyone’s minds, but other questions remain. What are the Braves going to do about left field next year? Is there any way for the team to rid itself of Marcell Ozuna? What additions will the team make in terms of the pitching staff? How much will payroll go up with the Braves essentially printing money during the 2022 season?

We don’t have answers to these questions yet, but we are going to make it as easy as possible to be able to find and track that information over the course of the offseason. Atlanta Braves 2023 Payroll Information (updated regularly)

Atlanta Braves 2022-2023 Offseason Transactions

• The Braves made the first trade of the offseason when they acquired outfielder Sam Hilliard from the Rockies in exchange for relief prospect Dylan Spain.
• Their second move was another trade as they sent Jake Odorizzi to the Texas Rangers along with $10 million in exchange for Kolby Allard after Odorizzi exercised his player option.
• On 11/10, to the surprise of no one, the Braves extended the qualifying offer to Dansby Swanson. This was the only qualifying offer they extended.
• On 11/11, the Braves signed reliever Nick Anderson to a one year split deal. Basically, he makes $875,000 if he is in the majors, significantly less if he is in the minors.
• The Braves brought back fan favorite Jesse Chavez on a one year deal
• On 11/15, Dansby Swanson, as expected, declined the qualifying offer and hit the free agent market.
• Also on 11/15, the Braves made their 40 man roster moves to protect Darius Vines, Braden Shewmake, and Roddery Munoz from the Rule 5 draft. Sadly, that meant that Guillermo Heredia’s time with the Braves also came to an end.
• The Braves sent some cash to the Rangers to acquire Dennis Santana in a trade on 11/15. The 15th was a busy day.
• The nontender deadline was on 11/18 this year and the Braves took some of the suspense out of that date by signing Tyler Matzek to a two year deal. At the deadline, the Braves ended up signing Mike Soroka to a one year deal and officially designated five players for assignment.

Atlanta Braves Offseason Rumors

• There is certainly some smoke that Jacob deGrom would like to sign with the Braves this offseason.
• There is certainly interest from both sides on a reunion with Dansby Swanson. Rumor has it that the Braves made an offer worth around $100 million on an extension during the season as a starting point.
• On 11/12, it was reported that the Cubs were looking at Dansby on the free agent market.
