Well then, we can almost assume at this point that if the Atlanta Braves make a big trade, they are going to sign them to an extension. This does not displease us one bit.

Late-ish last night, the Braves announced basically out of nowhere (which is pretty typical for this front office) that they had comes to terms with Sean Murphy on a six year deal worth $73 million.  He will remain a Brave through the 2028 season AND the Braves have a club option for 2029 worth $15 million. A tremendous value considering how good Sean Murphy is at his job and now the Braves are set at catcher for the foreseeable future.

Elsewhere on the site, we took a look back at some of the familiar faces that the Braves have brought back over the years. After previously covering the hitters, we took a look at the pitchers that rejoined the Atlanta Braves since 2003. The list includes a Hall of Famer as well as one of the most traveled (and best dressed) pitchers we have seen in Atlanta.

Around the league, we did have a couple of signings of note. The Pittsburgh Pirates (who are probably going to remain bad for quite a while) bolstered their rotation with the signing of Rich Hill to a one year, $8 million deal. Hill is obviously past his prime to put it kindly, but he has remained a perfectly reasonable starter well into his 40’s.

The Rangers, who have not been shy when it comes to spending, also beefed up their rotation as they added Nathan Eovaldi on a two year, $34 million deal that also reportedly has a vesting option for a third year. Health has always been the issue with Eovaldi, but the man can miss some bats and he should be a nice compliment to Jacob deGrom in Texas’ rotation.
